A traffic safety mirror is a convex mirror that makes blind spots visible to drivers. It is one of the most economical ways to prevent accidents at narrow junctions, car park exits, sharp bends and warehouse yards.
How to Determine the Mirror Diameter
The diameter is chosen according to the distance between the driver and the mirror. As a rule of thumb: a 60 cm mirror suits 10-15 metres, an 80 cm mirror 15-25 metres, and a 100 cm mirror 25 metres and beyond. The longer the distance, the larger the diameter required; otherwise the image becomes too small to read.
Choosing by Application
- Junctions and site exits: post-mounted outdoor mirrors with red-white frames
- Indoor car parks: ceiling or column mounted indoor mirrors
- Warehouses and forklift areas: wide-angle, impact-resistant models
Mounting Height and Angle
The ideal outdoor mounting height is 2-2.5 metres; the mirror should be out of pedestrian reach yet below the level where it conflicts with truck mirrors. Adjust the angle so the blind spot is centred when viewed from the driver’s stopping point, and test it with a vehicle after installation.
Material and Durability
Prefer UV-resistant polycarbonate or acrylic for the lens and impact-resistant PPC for the frame. Quality mirrors provide a clear image for years without surface degradation.
